About Mountain House Ranch

Mountain House Ranch (MHR) was established in 1974 in the heart of Buffalo Gap, Texas. Known for its rugged terrain and ecological diversity, this land has a long history tied to buffalo migration paths, Comanche tribes, and early settlers. Today, MHR continues as both a nature preserve and a working ranch, blending conservation with responsible care for the land.

Our Mission

Our mission is to protect and preserve the native plants, animals, and natural resources of Buffalo Gap. We are committed to responsible conservation, environmental education, and stewardship of the land so future generations can enjoy the richness of West Texas wildlife and natural beauty.

Our Vision

We envision a thriving natural environment where wildlife flourishes, natural springs remain intact, and native grasses and habitats are restored. Mountain House Ranch seeks to be a model for sustainable land stewardship and meaningful connections with nature.

Working Ranch Operations

HUNTING

HUNTING

HUNTING

We offer very limited private hunting opportunities on rugged, heavily vegetated land—unusual terrain for this part of West Texas. These hunts are available only by request and follow our conservation-focused safe-harvest approach to maintain healthy wildlife populations.

FISHING

HUNTING

HUNTING

We maintain several spring-fed watering holes that support native fish and wildlife. From time to time, we offer private fishing access to friends of the ranch or by special request.

CATTLE

HUNTING

CATTLE

Mountain House Ranch raises a small number of Longhorn, Angus, and Wagyu-cross cattle on native grasses.  We are not a retail beef business—just a limited offering for friends of the ranch or those seeking thoughtfully raised, naturally finished beef.
